Hi, I’m Robert Martell—founder of Martell Cyber Tech and an information security engineer. I help small and mid-sized businesses protect their technology, data, and people in an increasingly connected world.
Cybersecurity touches nearly every aspect of modern life. From smartphones and laptops to cloud platforms and point-of-sale systems, most businesses rely on smart devices that communicate across the internet or personal area networks (PANs). While this connectivity enables productivity, it also creates risk if not properly secured.
My Journey into Cybersecurity
My cybersecurity journey started long before it became my profession. As a kid, I spent countless hours tinkering with computers—keeping systems running, networks connected, and games online. I’ve always enjoyed challenges, logical problem-solving, and understanding how systems work.
I initially pursued a degree in history and spent two years teaching high school students. During that time, my wife recognized where my true interests and strengths aligned and encouraged me to pursue cybersecurity as a career. That encouragement changed the direction of my professional life.
Education & Professional Experience
I began formal cybersecurity training in Miami, Florida, where I taught full-time while completing a cybersecurity bootcamp through ThriveDx. From there, I continued building my technical foundation through New Horizons and earned my CompTIA A+ certification.
Today, I work as an Information Security Engineer at a university, where I help protect complex environments that include thousands of users, devices, and systems. I also hold the CompTIA Security+ certification and continue investing in ongoing education to stay ahead of evolving threats.
Cybersecurity is a constantly changing field—and that’s what drives me. Continuous learning is essential, not optional.
Why Small Businesses Need Proactive Security
Small and mid-sized businesses face many of the same cyber threats as large corporations, but often with fewer resources and less margin for disruption. Too often, cybersecurity is addressed after an incident—once data is lost, systems are locked, or business operations are interrupted.
Being proactive is critical to long-term success. Keeping devices updated, securing networks, monitoring for malware, and training users on cyber-hygiene are not “extra” tasks—they are part of running a modern business.
Protecting your data and digital assets today is just as important as fixing problems when they arise.
How I Help
At Martell Cyber Tech, I help businesses build strong cybersecurity hygiene through practical, customized solutions. This includes assessing your devices, identifying risk, strengthening security controls, and aligning technology with your business goals.
My approach combines information technology and cybersecurity to help you reduce risk, improve resilience, and gain confidence in your digital environment.
Cybersecurity doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right strategy and guidance, it becomes a powerful asset—not a burden.
